Brighton-Le-Sands Baths – Brighton-Le-Sands Beach, NSW, 2216

Overall: Clean, easy access, good public facility. Nappy change and toilet only.

Good Points: Ramp access. Well sign posted. Wall mounted fold out baby change table. Big toilet cubicle. Big enough for prams. Nappy disposal bin. Flick mixer tap.

Bad Points: Main door doesn’t lock from the inside. Some broken fittings in the toilet cubicle.

A couple of months ago, we headed to Brighton Le Sands on business and decided to check out the beach while we were there. It was such a great idea! On a weekday, there’s barely anyone on the beach. It was peaceful and beautiful, so we collected shells and chased seagulls.

At the beach there’s the Brighton Le Sands Baths building. It is home to the cafe, a restaurant and also the public bathroom. Being the little parent room detectives we are, checking out the kid-friendliness of the toilets was top priority.

For a public bathroom, this is a fantastic facility. Especially considering the recent disgusting discoveries we made at Lane Cove, the baby change facilities at Brighton Le Sands Baths are excellent. Yes, it’s basic but it’s great.

The toilets are well sign posted, with a baby change symbol on the sign for the disabled/unisex bathroom. The bathroom is accessed by ramp, making it easy for parents with prams to use.

The main door does not lock from the inside, but it is quite heavy which helps make you feel a bit more secure. The change table is the wall mounted, fold out variety, and is pretty clean and in great condition. The actual toilet cubicle inside the bathroom is huge!! The door to the cubicle locks from the inside, and is big enough to for a pram. This is very important to parents. Too often we find feeding cubicles or toilets that are too small to fit a pram inside, leaving parents with very unappealing options – 1. leave the toilet door open so you can keep an eye on the pram; 2. take baby out of the pram and take them into the toilet with you, trying to handle that task and hold baby at the same time (not easy!). Finding a public toilet big enough to have a pram inside the cubicle is wonderful. It really is.

There is a nappy disposal bin just opposite the baby change table (big tick!), and a flick mixer sink. Do you know how good it is to find a tap that you can turn on and off with your elbow instead of your hands? We love it, not just for the hygiene reasons but also because it’s loads easier for little kids to use.

The only real downside we found was a few broken fittings in the toilet cubicle. Nothing major though.

So there you go! If you’re after a nice beach to go to with the little ones, and want a clean bathroom to look after your baby, then Brighton Le Sands baths come highly recommended 🙂
