Doyles on the Beach – 11 Marine Pde, Watson’s Bay, NSW 2030

Reviewed by C

Overall: Children welcome, but I wouldn’t say it’s child-friendly. Basic facilities for kids. Happy to see a children’s menu.

Good Points: Nappy change table is clean and workable. Standard wall mounted fold out unit. Ramp access to disabled/female bathroom where the change table is located. High chairs provided. Small children’s menu.

Bad Points: Entry/wash area of bathroom looks too narrow for a pram. No kids utensils or cups supplied.

Happy Anniversary!! It’s the 10th wedding anniversary for me and my darling hubby. How fast time has the past 10 years gone. It’s been an adventure for sure, and one that has given us our precious princess who is just over 2yr.

So how did we celebrate this milestone? We went to lunch at Doyles on the Beach (the following photo is from their website – I forgot to take one of the exterior!)

Now we have been here a couple of times in the past, and each time it was just the two of us. This time we took our little one. And I can honestly say we still had a lovely lunch – all three of us. It was looking shaky at first, as Squirt was well overdue for a sleep but a wander outside on to the wet sand soon made everything better.

As far as being a child-friendly restaurant, it’s more accurate to say children are welcome. There’s a change table in the single cubicle disabled/female bathroom, and high chairs are provided and adjusted for you. There is a kids menu, with 3 options (all including chips – but you have to have them at Doyles!). If you’ve ever been to Doyles you’ll know how large the servings are for regular size meals………this also extends to the kids meals (no child-size cutlery or cups provided).

I was looking around during lunch for the bathrooms, and found them at the back of the restaurant. The toilet with the disabled/female stickers on the front is the one to use for little people. Leave the pram at the table because the chances of navigating it in the heavy first door, then maneuvering it through the wash area and into the actual cubicle door are pretty slim. Feel free to have a go and let me know if it’s easier than it looks. I decided not to chance it. If you do take the pram though, there is ramp access to the back of the restaurant – just opposite the small set of stairs.

The toilet cubicle is roomier than the entry/wash area which is great. Makes up for the cramped entry way. It’s pretty basic once inside. Standard clean fold out wall mounted baby change table with a nappy bin at the end of it on the floor.

There’s one toilet which is standard size so little people may need help with it. That’s pretty much it really. The wash area has a soap dispenser, sink, rolling towel and hand-dryer. For breast-feeding, bring a covering just in case. If you’re not comfortable with feeding inside the restaurant then head outside because it is just gorgeous. Even with the crazy weather we had today (cold and super windy!), it’s still very beautiful and peaceful. And there were loads of little ones running about on the sand chasing seagulls – very cute.
