Dural Library – Pellitt Lane, Dural NSW 2158

Overall: Basic but pram friendly and roomy. Nappy change only.

Good Points: Pram friendly! No steps. Wall mounted fold out nappy change table. Paper towel, sink and soap. Toilet with assistance rails. Door locks from the inside.

Bad Points: No nappy bin. It’s cold in there! The VISY bin is too close to the change table (awkward).

As you would have noticed by now, I’m a fan of checking out libraries around Sydney. They’re a fabulous free resource for families (unless you’re late with returns – oops!), with different programs run every week for kids of all ages. With many libraries have programs for babies, it’s good to know which ones do actually cater for the needs of babies – ie nappy changes and feeding. The library at Dural is one of the better equipped libraries seen to date.

The entrance to the library is a piece of cake for anyone with a pram. It’s just a flat walk from the carpark to the auto doors of the library, with not a single step to navigate. A pram-pusher’s dream come true.

The kids section of the library is just inside the doors, in the back right corner. It’s so easy!! Nice and close to the front desk too, so you can keep an eye on little ones while you’re at the counter making enquiries.

There isn’t a stand-alone parent room here, but there is a toilet which has a nappy change table and is wheelchair and pram accessible. It’s up the back of the library, in the far left corner. The door is easy to open and is lockable from the inside. The room is big enough to fit a pram, but side-by-side doubles will find it very tough (or impossible).

The baby change table is mounted on the wall to the right of the room. It’s the standard fold out change table, clean and in great condition. On one side of the table, there’s a big VISY bin resting against it. This wouldn’t be a problem normally, except for it leaves little room on the other side for you to be able to comfortably change your baby. On the other side, the amount of room between the change table and the sink could have you bumping yourself a bit. The other option is to just stand at the end of the table and change bubby that way (that’s my preferred way to do it anyway).

It’s great to see a paper towel unit instead of a hand dryer. There’s soap at the sink, but one thing I can’t remember seeing was a nappy bin. Maybe I missed it, or maybe it wasn’t there. Hmmm……anyway….

Check out the photos yourself, and please let us know about libraries in your area. How well does your local library cater to the basic needs of babies? The library at Dural, it’s one of the best for baby care seen so far. Love it.
