Overall: Clean, easy access, good condition. Nappy change and toilet only.
Good Points: Ramp access into the library. Off street parking. Baby change table in the bathroom. Sink, soap and hand dryer. Locking toilet door. Great children’s section in the library. Lovely staff.
Bad Points: Doorway to the library and bathroom not so good for double prams. No nappy disposal bin. You need to ask staff to open the bathroom door.
The start of our look into the libraries within the Parramatta Council area did not go well. Dundas library was disappointing, so we were not expecting too much when we headed out to visit Ermington library. Well, we were actually surprised to find it alot better!
The Ermington Branch Library is a lovely, quiet place to spend time with your little ones. There is off-street parking, just next to the community centre which is next to the library. It’s ramp access makes it a breeze with prams, although the door way is probably too narrow for double prams. The children’s section is at the far end of the library and has loads of books, toys and sunlight. The only problem with this area is the study/work area is down here too. Now kids aren’t known for being quiet, not even in libraries, so having the desks and chairs for people to do their reading and other work next to the kids section isn’t the brightest idea. However, it has turned out to be a positive as our little ones are learning to talk quietly in the library, even while reading books aloud.
Now for the baby change facilities. There is one bathroom in the library, and you have to ask staff at the main counter to open the door for you. The main door is activated by a button at the desk, probably to make sure the bathroom isn’t trashed. It’s a bit sad this has to be done, but it’s nice to come across a clean bathroom in good condition. Anyway once the first door is open, just open the second door and there’s the bathroom. The toilet has assistance rails, and there’s also a wall mounted fold out baby change table. The change table is clean and in great condition. One thing we couldn’t find was a nappy disposal bin. There’s a general rubbish bin, and a sanitary disposal bin, but no nappy bin. We’re assuming nappies just go in the rubbish bin instead (remember your nappy saks!).
So far, this is our favourite library within the Parramatta Council area but stay tuned…..we have a few more to check out yet.
