Hungry Jacks – Cnr Mile End Rd & Windsor Rd, Rouse Hill NSW 2155

Overall: Basic but good (as far as fast food restaurants go). Nappy change only.

Good Points: Clear signs on the door. Door locks from the inside. Change table away from door, on opposite side of the room. Change table is stocked with wipes and disposable change mats. Safety strap on change table. Sink, soap and hand dryer. Toilet with assistance rails. A couple of nappy disposal bins.

Bad Points: The room isn’t really big enough for a pram. The change table is a bit grubby. The change table is too close to the hand dryer.

Hungry Jacks (HJ’s) is a nice change from Maccas. Not just in terms of food, but in respect to the baby change facilities. I haven’t been to many HJ’s yet, but after this experience I’ll be making an effort to check out more of the stores.

Like most fast food restaurants, the baby change area is combined with the disabled toilet. This is pretty normal. The good thing about HJ’s at Rouse Hill is there is just one door to open to get into the toilet. The other restaurants that have a first door to the toilet area, followed by a teeny tiny foyer, then doors to the toilets, are so frustrating for parents with prams! It’s really tough negotiating a couple of doors with a pram, and other people coming in and out all the time. This HJ’s store has my vote for making taking little people to the loo, or changing their bottoms, so much easier.

As you enter the restaurant, there is a short hallway to the left and down here are the toilet doors. On the left is the clearly sign-posted disabled toilet/baby change area. The door locks from the inside, which is fabulous, so you won’t have anyone barging in while you tend to your little one.

Inside the room, there is a toilet to the left which has assistance rails. This is great for little ones learning to use the loo, as the rails help them get on and off the toilet with ease. In the far corner are the two nappy bins. These are in easy reach of the change table (yay!).

The change table is the usual wall mounted fold out type. It’s on the opposite wall of the room. A little too close to the hand dryer, but at least it’s away from the door. The table has a safety strap attached, to help keep your little one stable while you’re changing them. It’s also fully stocked with wipes and disposable change mats! This is very rare to find, not just in fast food outlets but anywhere! I love this! It makes life for us parents so much easier when little extras like that are on hand. The part of the table attached to the wall is a bit grubby, but overall it’s a pretty good setup.

While it’s probably not good for their business, I do like that HJ’s is more quiet and relaxing than Maccas which is just a few doors down. Overall, it’s a pretty good fast food restaurant in terms of looking after the needs of parents and babies. So check it out if you’re in the area, and let me know what you think.
